Sources say the 71-year-old Gandhi favorite’s refusal to step down. as Rajasthan chief minister has irked the leadership.

Ashok Gehlot was ousted as Congress president. following a revolt by more than 90 Rajasthan MLAs loyal to him. Leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Digvijaya Singh are in the leadership parigana.

The 71-year-old Gehlot had agreed to resign as chief minister. ahead of the election to the Congress president’s. post after Rahul Gandhi made it clear that he would not be allowed. dual status in view of the “one, one position” policy.

The regime change in Rajasthan was to be formally announced. at a meeting of MLAs at Gehlot’s residence on Sunday. attended by Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress leadership did not believe that 92 MLAs. would threaten mass resignation without Gehlot’s support. Although Gehlot apologized party leaders took. a “serious view” of indiscipline by one of its senior-most leaders.
